Central Zone Boys Rugby U45 - 1st Place and Open weight - 3rd Place!
On the 9th of May the Waikowhai intermediate Under 45 kilogram and Open Weight Rugby teams went to Avondale Race course to take part in the annual Central Zone rugby tournament. Ground conditions were ideal and both teams were focussed on playing quality rugby. As the day progressed both teams displayed great heart, focus and determination and should be very proud of their efforts. The Under 45 kg team went through to the final undefeated where they met St Peters and came out victorious to claim the championship. They will now move on to compete in the InterZone tournament. The Open Weight team progressed to the semi-finals undefeated, where after a tough battle, were unable to come out triumphant. They finished the day with a respectable placing of third. A special thanks to parents and care givers who gave up their day to support, supervise and provide transport.

Pentanque Champions!
Last week a team of Waikowhai Intermediate School students competed in the Auckland School Petanque competition. Petanque is an ancient European game of boules which was adopted by the French. The game is now very popular worldwide, with 50 countries entering the world championships in 2007. The interesting point to note about last week’s competition is that it did not differentiate between schools. Primary and intermediate school students competed against secondary students. Therefore it was an outstanding effort by our students to win the competition.
Our congratulations go to; Ce-Wade De Thierry, David Taumoeanga, Kerehama McSheffrey and Seli Fuimaono for their outstanding achievement. A special mention and thanks to Mr De Thierry who accompanied and managed the students on the day.
